Magic Fire Music : Hi guys! Thank you for answering our questions! A few years have passed since the release of Journey Of A Rough Diamond and Pulse for a Graveheart . What happened during this time?
Emanuele Colella : I can tell you that it was a period full very difficult for us but it’s gone. We had a lot of little problems. Firs of all some line-up changes: we have lost our first singer at first and now we have finally replaced him with our actual front-man Aurelio. Then we have toured doing a 15 gigs tour around the Europe. So We just have a lot of internal personal problems which has brought to us to replace our last bass-player too. However the composing of “Pulse...” it has been really natural and immediate. I like to think that we already were on this way after “Journey of rough diamond”.

Magic Fire Music : A new singer joined the band, how have you met him?
Emanuele Colella : Elio is an important artist here…his grandfather was of one of the most important folk Neapolitan singer. We had the idea to call him after to have listened his shows ( I can tell you that he was a component of the famous NOTRE DAME DE PARIS musical, he is a soul and hard rock singer as well and we heard him as singer in deep purple, led zeppelin tribute bands ).
Dario De Cicco : Personally I felt in love with Aurelio’s voice since the first time I heard him. I was astonished by his warm tones and colours like his incredible power as well. We thought that he was perfect for us and we tried to persuade him to join the band. He accepted and we did the Italian Train of Thought Tour 2004”as supporting act for Dream Theater. From that moment we knew that Aurelio was the only one singer who was able to sing our new tracks.

Magic Fire Music : Did he participate in the composition of the album?
Emanuele Colella : We composed “Pulse....” thinking to Aurelio voices and how he could show us and all the fans this stunning instrument! The composing process is the result of our growth and to his new influences based on seventies music…So..definitevely I can say that the song was written by me Dario and Andrea. Aurelio has given his contribute in recording process.

Magic Fire Music : Moreover, who compose the music in your band?
Emanuele Colella : I, Dario and Andrea are the composer…but we are waiting for the Vth element!:-)
Dario De Cicco : Emanuele and me give all the ideas to settle the songs. Then we’ve worked together to complete all the arrangements and melodic vocals lines. Three songs of the album was composed just by me (Sunset Highway, Crusted Memories, A New Generation) but generally we work all together to the song-writing process.

Magic Fire Music : Musically speaking, the previous album was very close to Symphony X but this is not the case of this new album. You draw your inspiration from which bands? Did you change your way to compose?
Emanuele Colella : It’s really strange think now about journey…I see it very distant..However..In that moment Mind Key were in a state of growing up I think!! So, each one of us was really influenced by the favourite music and musicians... In fact now I can see an album like the result of all the first influences…. but sometimes I listen journey yet…and I can feel precisely the “will to do”..I can say the will of everyone to show our music. Now we have choose another way but all it has been so natural! We are growth up..and this has changed our thinking about the music, the listenings and so on…Pulse is the result of all these things.

Magic Fire Music : Many guests can be heard. Were some of them reluctant in the beginning? Were some others very enthusiastic?
Emanuele Colella : We contact them trough our manager Davide Guidone and thanks to Frontiers Records..I can tell you that we thought only one thing.. tell to everyone where play!!! Derek was like a bolt in the sky…rapid and effective….Tom had a duet with elio on graveheart..seemed that they usually sings together ...but for me..and now I’m not really honest..the best one was Reb…he has played an incredible solo…we told him only 1 thing ..to remember “headed for a heartbreak” from Winger, to play the solo.
Dario De Cicco : When we have completed all the song-writing sessions, We have become to imagine who some songs could be more impressive with some guest contributions. The firse guest we tried to include just was Derek that we ve Derek wanted to hear some stuffs from our upcoming album and answered us he could be really happy to gift us a solos and then we chose “Citizen of Greed” for him. His solo talks about itself!

Reb Beach was contacted by me thanks to Elio Bordi (Frontiers Records promotion manager) that suggested me his name for an instrumental contribution on our album. I’m a great Winger and Whitesnake fan and his name it has always been a legend for me. I wrote him an e-mail asking his contribution on our new album. He asked me to listen the song which we had chosen for his solo. We chose “Now Until Forever” ‘cause had a middle instrumental part in the “Winger” style. He listened it and was astonished and so…..was really happy to accept our offer.

Magic Fire Music : The duet with Tom Englund is absolutely bluffing. It is, in my opinion, the best song of the album. How did the recording go? Did you meet him or did you do everything by the Internet?
Dario De Cicco : For Tom, we knew him ‘cause we contacted him for a possible producing engagement. After this first touch, We decided after to ask him to sing some vocals on a song. And he was astonished by our song called “Graveheart” and then the duet with Elio was born. We have done everything by internet ‘cause we all usually works during the year and in the period when we was free, Tom was busy to record the new Evergrey album: the amazing “TORN”. But we don’t give up. It could be amazing to met him. I have met Reb Beach durin the last Whitesnake Italian Tour. What a great day for me

Magic Fire Music : I'm a big fan of Italian Metal: Mind Key, DGM, Astra, Dynamic Lights, EdenShade, Fatherpaint, Eldritch... Vision Divine, Labyrinth, and many more. Italian metal scene has been exploded for years. 4 years ago, Mind Key wasn't well-known. It is a great moment for the band to show up and introduce itself. Will 2009 be the year of Mind Key?
Emanuele Colella : Ehehe this is our hopes !anyway my only worry is that our music could enjoy people!!!this is the most important result.
Dario De Cicco : Personally I love the major part of band you have talked about. I love Visione Divine (our label friend) , Eldritch and Labyrinth as well. Yes it’s true ...It’s a great moment for us and It could be amazing to have the same success of that bands (or a part of it...it’s ok too -Joke-). We hope that 2009 gift us some great satisfactions!!!

Magic Fire Music : What is the album about? Is this a concept-album?
Emanuele Colella : Yes..this topics should be for Dario that is the writer af all our lyrics. I think that you can feel in all the album the criteria that for us the art, and in this case the music, can resist despite everythings

Magic Fire Music : What are inspiring you for your lyrics?
Dario De Cicco : I’m the only lyrics writer of the band and I think that our songs some interesting lyrics based on some passions of mine: cinema, books and the arts in general. In fact Sunset Highway is based on Billy Wilder’s masterpiece “Sunset Boulevard”, “The Seventh Seal” is based on Ingmar Bergman namesake movie, “Citizen of Greed” is based on Orson Wells “Citizen Kane”, “Eye of a Stranger” is based on G. Orwell’s long novel called “1984” , “A new Generation” is inspired by and dedicated to P.P. Pasolini a really important Italian poet, movie director, writer and intellectual. Instead the other lyrics have at subject important theme as euthanasia and “free science” problems as well on “Crusted memories”, the value of the artists after the death on “Dead fame hunter”, the misdeeds and tragedies caused by the maddening political ideologies on “Graveheart” and a strange kind of love story between a man and a “strange kind of woman” who was found by that man in every corner of the city...on “Now until forever”.

Magic Fire Music : Are we gonna see you on some festivals this summer?
Dario De Cicco : Not for this summer. We are planning a new tour for the next autumn. Stay tuned...
