Magic Fire Music : Hello Crucified Barbara! How are you? Thank you for your time to answer our questions!
Crucified Barbara : Thank you! It's our pleasure.
Magic Fire Music : Your new album has been released a few days ago. Do you already have some feedbacks regarding the sales?
Crucified Barbara : I don't know but I'm sure our label manager can answer such questions.
Magic Fire Music : What is this album talking about? What are the main themes?
Crucified Barbara : Broken hearts, friendship, love, hate, revenge, stupid people, wonderful people etc etc. All the things that affect you in life.
Magic Fire Music : How do you compose? Has your way of working changed from one album to the others?
Crucified Barbara : The songwriting process was pretty much like last time; sometimes we work individually and sometimes we just jam all together. There are no rules when it's comes to how we write songs.
All of us have been spending a lot of time recording song ideas at home. Even if those songs don't always end up on the album it's really important to constantly stay creative. When we're jamming together, trying new stuff and something doesn't work out it's really great to have a stock of ideas. For instance; the heavy stoner riff in ”Rise and Shine” was a completely different song from the beginning that Ida had been working on at home. And the intro riff and the verse came from two different song ideas me and Nicki had been working on at my place. And parts of the lyrics come from a third song idea we had been working on for years. Sometimes songwriting is like doing a jigsaw puzzle. You have the parts, you just have to find the right place for them.
Magic Fire Music : You have toured a lot between Till Death Do Us Party and this new album. What good and bad memories do you keep in mind from this period of time?
Crucified Barbara : The tours have been great and we have a lot of great memories. Of course it's hard sometimes, for instance the pressure you feel when writing and recording new songs. You really want it to be perfect but sometimes you start to doubt yourself and your ability. But in the long run it's always worth it.
Magic Fire Music : You played at Colmar’s Foire Aux Vins in France with Soulfly, Saxon, Europe, Alice Cooper etc. Was that a good concert?
Crucified Barbara : Yeah! We had a great time in Colmar. It was probably that years best show. I remember the great energy and that it felt like we almost became one with the audience. And we had a great party afterwards with our swedish friends in Europe.
Magic Fire Music : Did you take the opportunity to taste some good wine from Alsace?
Crucified Barbara : Haha. Of course. All of us are wine lovers and the white Alsace wine was delicious!
Magic Fire Music : Have you schedulded a lot of tourdates for the promotion of The Midnight Chase? Will you come back to play in France?
Crucified Barbara : We have a lot of shows planned this year. Both in Europe and South America. France is like a second home to us and we take every opportunity we get to come to France.
Magic Fire Music : Crucified Barbara seems to be one of those bands which particularly enjoy playing live. Is that true? What do you like exactly in playing at concerts?
Crucified Barbara : We love touring and we're happiest on the road. It's a great feeling to leave the grey every day life behind and take off with your best friends doing the thing you love the most; play music. We're so happy when we finally get to play the songs live. When you've been writing, rehearsing and recording songs for a long time It's the most wonderful feeling to perform them on stage and connect with the audience. The power of the audience is the last ingredient in a good song. The spice that makes it perfect.
Magic Fire Music : Do you have some kind of a ritual before going on stage?
Crucified Barbara : We warm up by playing our instruments. It's very peaceful sitting in the dressingroom and play the guitar while listening to Mia doing vocal exercises in the bathroom.
Magic Fire Music : What are you usually doing on Sundays?
Crucified Barbara : We're probably in a van or at an airport somewhere on our way home to Stockholm after a show. Probably a little bit hungover but happy. If we haven't had a gig I'm most likely to be at work taking care of the elderly. I'm pretty sure you won't find us in church anyways...
Magic Fire Music : Which song or which band made you think « I want to play Rock music and I want to make a living of that!”
Crucified Barbara : It all started in the mid '90s when we discovered Nirvana and the whole Seattle grunge scene. We didn't yet know each other at that time, but all of us had the same experience and started playing music more less because of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. Luckily enough destiny hooked us up and we started Crucified Barbara. Since then we have listened to a lot of other music as well and evolved our sound.
Magic Fire Music : I let you have the last words, if you want to say something to our readers...
Crucified Barbara : We hope you like the new album and we hope to see you on tour very soon!
